Pres Banner for Katye
Dear Neighbors:

As we step into a new year, I find myself reflecting on what makes the Heights such a singular place to call home. Whether you are a lifelong resident or a newcomer who just fell in love with our bungalow-lined streets, we all share a common thread: a deep appreciation for a community that feels like a small town in the heart of a great American city.

It is an honor to address you once again as your President. Having served in this role once before, I am

returning to the helm with a renewed sense of purpose and a deep gratitude for the continuity of our mission. I know firsthand the dedication this position requires, which makes me even more appreciative of the path paved by my predecessor.

A Heartfelt Thank You
Before we look toward the year ahead, I want to extend a massive thank you to Hannah White for her incredible service as our outgoing President. Hannah’s leadership over the past term has been a masterclass in grace and effectiveness. She navigated complex challenges with a steady hand, and our neighborhood is stronger and more connected because of her efforts. Please join me in thanking her when you see her out and about!

Looking Toward 2026
The Houston Heights Association (HHA) remains a steward of our neighborhood's unique character. In this second term, I am focused on ensuring our mission—fostering a vibrant local culture.

Community Events
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Spring Home & Garden Tour, April 18 & 19. It is an opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Heights and raise the funds that keep our association running.

Get Involved
The HHA is a volunteer-driven organization. From our events to Donovan and Marmion Parks to the historic Houston Heights Fire Station - they are all the result of neighbors giving their time. If you have a passion for urban forestry, local history, or simply want to help, there is a seat at the table for you.

We are more than just a collection of historic homes; we are a collection of stories, families, and friends. Thank you for welcoming me back to this role!

Warmly,
Katye Tipton
President, Houston Heights Association

New Pedestrian Beacon at Yale & 13th

How to Use a Crosswalk with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB)

A new pedestrian-activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon is now active at Yale and 13th Street to increase safety for students and neighbors heading to Heights High School, Love Elementary, the Heights Neighborhood Library, and Kido International Preschool & Daycare. These beacons significantly improve visibility for pedestrians and cyclists, helping to reduce crashes by alerting drivers with high-intensity flashing lights. Watch the video above to learn how to properly activate the beacon and cross safely.

    A Win for Accessibility:

    Community Advocacy in Action

CM Kamin has been advocating for improved accessibility throughout the Heights, thanks to a recent request from a Heights Towers resident through the MOPD Pedestrian Accessibility Review program to address dangerous sidewalk and ramp conditions along 19th Street to Yale and 20th. The District C Office elevated the request to the Mayor, Houston Public Works (HPW), and at City Council, and conducted a site visit with residents to better understand the safety issues. While METRO’s 20th Street rehabilitation project initially did not include needed crosswalk paving, Council Member Kamin coordinated with METRO, MOPD, and HPW to ensure the intersection improvements were added. As a result, METRO will include the necessary intersection work, and HPW will complete the sidewalk ramps at W. 20th and Yale and address other problem areas identified by residents. Construction is underway, with sidewalk accessibility improvements expected to begin in early January and take approximately 4–6 weeks to complete.
