October

What does your 2025 HHA President have in common with our beloved Houston Heights Fun Run? We’re both turning 40 this month!

I just celebrated my 40th birthday over the weekend, and what better way to keep the party going than with the 40th Annual Fun Run?! I can’t wait to see you at the finish line this Saturday, October 11, as we come together to cheer on our neighbors and support the community we love so much.

There is still time to run (or walk) the

boulevard! Whether you are a seasoned runner, stroller pusher, enthusiastic sideline cheerleader, or wonderful neighborhood supporter, this event is always a Heights highlight.

Register today for the 10K, 5K, or Kids 1K or join the volunteer team!

Speaking of AMAZING VOLUNTEERS, enclosed is a photo with two of the HHA’s BEST: Nicole Pepper, our Holiday Home Tour Event Chair, and Kevin Chenevert, our Sponsorship Chair. We recently shared a cozy cup of coffee at New Heights Coffee Roasters (one of our Platinum Sponsors!) to talk through the magic being planned for this year’s tour. Trust me, Nicole and the Planning Committee have some truly special moments in store!

If you’d like to go Walking in a Winter Wonderland, make plans now for the 2025 Holiday Home Tour on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6. Decked out in full holiday style, the doors to some of the most charming homes will be wide open for your seasonal stroll.

You can expect…
• Beautifully decorated homes
• Festive music
• Holiday sips
• Community magic at every stop

Grab your tickets or join in the fun as a volunteer!

For now, I hope to see you at the Fun Run, the Holiday Home Tour, and all of our General Meetings in between. Thank you for being the kind of neighbors who show up, cheer loud, and make the Heights feel like home in every season.

I’m excited to enjoy a fall full of celebration, connection, and cooler weather (eventually) together!

Love & Blessings,
Hannah White

Houston sculptor Tim Glover, known for his 2015 Heights Boulevard installation Whirlwind, returns with “Margy’s Menagerie,” a playful and heartfelt tribute to his late mother-in-law, Margy Doyle. Inspired by her suggestion of an elephant form, Glover created a carousel of whimsical characters housed within a repurposed industrial glass cylinder. A longtime Houston artist and retired Kinder HSPVA educator, Glover’s work blends imagination with commentary, earning him national recognition and a place in major collections across Texas and beyond. October 2025 Yard of the Month

1607 Arlington Street -  Mr. Enrique Albin

IMG_5446

Our October Yard of the Month is a living work of art, shaped by a decade of creativity and care. What began as a simple, natural vision has evolved into an exuberant tropical garden that perfectly complements Alessandra’s sculptures. Over the years, the grass was replaced with striking black and white gravel, and after a winter freeze, a bronze sculpture took the place of a fallen palm. Lush potted plants—philodendrons, monsteras, and ferns—bring a layered, tropical feel to the space, while a bed of camellias adds bursts of color near the porch. The design flows seamlessly from front to back, unified by the gravel paths and the presence of art throughout.

Heights Garden Tour - October

Join us on Saturday, October 11, from 10:00am–11:00am for a special tour of Tom Martin’s remarkable garden at 6410 Wister Lane. For 60 years, Tom has transformed his Timbergrove yard from a typical suburban lot into a stunning desert-inspired landscape filled with cactus, succulents, and native plants. After Hurricane Alicia reshaped his property in 1983, Tom embraced his love of the “desert look,” creating winding flagstone paths, stone beds, and artful displays of driftwood, metal accents, and statuary—all by hand. Today, at age 92, Tom still tends his garden with care and creativity, making it both his hobby and his sanctuary.
