As we officially welcome the arrival of summer, the energy in the Heights is as vibrant as ever. Looking back at the incredible turnout for our recent events, I am continually reminded of what makes our neighborhood so unique: our shared commitment to community, preservation, and simply enjoying each other’s company. This month, we keep that momentum moving forward with a full calendar of activities, neighborhood advocacy initiatives, and crucial programs designed to keep our historic streets safe, vibrant, and connected.
First up, I am thrilled to invite everyone to one of our most anticipated, high-energy gatherings of the season. On Monday, June 8, the Houston Heights Association will host our annual Pride Bingo at the historic Houston Heights Fire Station (12th and Yale) starting at 6:30pm. This year’s theme is "Trash Disco," so dust off your finest polyester, sequins, and studio-inspired retro attire for an evening of fast-paced games, fantastic prizes, and community celebration. Pride Bingo is always a highlight of our summer calendar, bringing neighbors together under one roof for a night of pure fun and inclusivity. Seats fill up incredibly fast, so please secure yours early and get ready to dance, play, and celebrate together.
FEATURED COMMUNITY EVENT: PRIDE BINGO
Monday, June 8, 2026 • 6:30pm • Historic Houston Heights Fire Station
Join us for "Trash Disco" night! Dress in your favorite retro glam attire for a high-spirited evening celebrating Pride Month with neighbors. Proceeds directly benefit HHA community projects.
While we look forward to these wonderful celebrations, maintaining the security and peace of mind of our residents remains a foundational priority for the association. To that end, I want to issue a strong reminder regarding our Heights Constable Patrol Program. This vital neighborhood security initiative is entirely funded by voluntary resident subscriptions. The dedicated deputies who patrol our neighborhood provide invaluable rapid response times, vacation watches, and a proactive physical presence that keeps our property and families safe. If you have not yet renewed your subscription for this year, or if you are new to the neighborhood and have yet to sign up, please visit our website today to join. A safer neighborhood is a collective investment, and every single subscription directly ensures we can maintain this critical coverage.
Our safety and community strength also depend heavily on our hyper-local networks. Our dedicated Block Captains serve as the essential connective tissue of the Houston Heights. We are currently launching a mid-year recruitment drive for new Block Captains across several unrepresented streets. Being a Block Captain is a minimal time commitment with a massive community impact; you are the welcoming committee for new neighbors, the point of contact for safety updates, and our primary ambassadors for driving HHA membership. If you love your block and want to help foster a tighter-knit, more informed community right outside your front door, please reach out to our committee chairs to volunteer.
Finally, as the school year wraps up, we want to make sure our youngest neighbors stay engaged and inspired over the break. The HHA is proud to promote the Houston Public Library Summer Reading Program. Keeping a book in hand during the summer months is one of the best ways to support our children’s education and feed their imaginations. Our local Heights Neighborhood Library branch has a wonderful lineup of summer activities, tracking challenges, and milestones for readers of all ages. Drop by the branch on Heights Boulevard to pick up a reading log, or sign up online to help your family dive into a summer of discovery.
Thank you all for your continued participation, your civic pride, and your ongoing dedication to keeping the Heights the most wonderful place to call home. I look forward to seeing many of you in your finest disco attire on June 8th!
Warmest regards,
Katye
