As flowers begin to bloom (while dodging a weekly season change) and the afternoon sun lingers just a little longer, there is an energy in the air. Spring in the Heights is one of my favorite seasons—a time when our neighborhood comes alive, from the joggers on the trail to the outdoor gatherings that define our historic community.
This month, we aren’t just celebrating the change in weather; we are gearing up for one of our most anticipated events. On behalf of the Houston Heights Association, I am thrilled to
officially invite you to the 2026 Heights Rodeo!
Save the Date:
When: Saturday, February 21 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm
Where: The Historic Houston Heights Fire Station, 107 W. 12th Street
Parking: We have secured overflow parking at Grace United Methodist Church (parking lot on Yale, just south of 13th Street). The event is a short walk at just half a block south!
Grab your hats, your boots (neither required) and bring your families and friends. Let’s make this Rodeo one for the history books. I look forward to seeing all of you there.
Investing in Our Peace of Mind: The Constable Patrol
While we celebrate our community, we also work hard to protect it. I am pleased to announce that subscriptions for our 2026 Heights Constable Patrol Program are now on sale. We often get the question: "Don't my tax dollars already pay for the police?" The answer is yes—tax dollars fund the general law enforcement presence across the entire city. However, those officers must respond to calls across all of Houston. Houston is 670 square miles! To visualize that size, the City of Houston is large enough to physically contain the cities of New York, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, and Miami all at once and Harris County is almost three times bigger than that. Your Constable Patrol subscription funds a contract that keeps dedicated deputies assigned exclusively to the Heights. These officers do not leave our boundaries to answer calls in other parts of town. The more subscribers we have, the more officers we can fund to stay here. PLUS, your support maintains our local Constable Storefront right on the corner of Heights Boulevard and 10th Street. Having this physical home base in the heart of the neighborhood ensures faster response times and a visible deterrent that standard tax dollars simply don't provide. We need more participation for this essential service.
I want to extend a sincere thank you to our volunteers and our subscribers. I see the tireless work you put in behind the scenes to make this neighborhood flourish and I am grateful beyond words.
Warmly,
Katye Tipton, President
Houston Heights Association
